NR 14-66 Deputy Injured in Dog Attack
Deputies responded to the location and determined that an aggravated battery domestic violence had just occurred where the victim was battered by the suspect. During the altercation, the victim was also bitten by the suspect’s dog. A description of the suspect and vehicle was provided and the suspect was located driving south on North Tropical Trail. A traffic stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, located at 400 W. Merritt Island Causeway. When the suspect vehicle stopped, a dog jumped from the vehicle and charged the deputies. The dog attacked Deputy Anthony Musante, biting him on the left hand, at which time the deputy fired one round killing the dog.
45-year-old Reginald Tyler Harris Jr. was arrested and charged with aggravated battery domestic violence. He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a no bond status.
Animal Control responded and transported the deceased animal for disease testing. The deputy was transported for medical treatment and will be released later this evening.
