NR 15-08 Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Armed Convicted Felon

15-8The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 32-year-old Daryl Lamont McCurdy of Arthur Circle, Melbourne. McCurdy was wanted on felony charges in relation to a shooting that occurred on January 19, 2015. During the incident, McCurdy was suspected of producing a firearm and firing it into a vehicle.

McCurdy was charged with the Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Battery, Criminal Mischief, and Discharging a Firearm in a Residential Area. At the time of the incident, McCurdy also had an active felony arrest warrant for Violation of Parole. McCurdy has an extensive violent felony criminal arrest record to include multiple narcotics charges, aggravated assault and forgery.

Earlier this morning, Sheriff’s Agents received an anonymous tip that McCurdy had returned to the Arthur Circle area and was hiding inside a residence. Members of the GameOver Task Force and South Precinct Deputies surrounded the residence. Although McCurdy originally refused to surrender, he was taken into custody without incident just prior to a Sheriff’s K-9 being introduced into the residence. Agents recovered a 9mm semi-automatic firearm subsequent to the arrest.

McCurdy was transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex where he is detained on a No Bond status.

Sheriff Ivey stated, “It is with great pleasure to announce that with the help of our citizens, members of your Sheriff’s Office were able to take another violent felon off the streets. This armed suspect posed a direct threat to the community. Each and every day I hear of examples such as this where citizens are taking a stand against crime to partner in efforts to make Brevard County a safe place to live and raise our families.”
