NR 17-14 Update Reference Deputy Involved Shooting
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the names of the deputy and robbery suspect involved in last night’s shooting incident. The decedent is identified as 19-year-old Trevor Allen Brice Gingras, Cape Canaveral. The deputy is identified as Lieutenant Michael Green, a 25-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is also releasing the 911 call, which is attached to this release.
The shooting occurred on March 19, 2017, when the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 211 Caroline Street, Cape Canaveral, at approximately 8:19 p.m. in reference to an attempted armed robbery. Upon arrival, Lieutenant Michael Green located the armed suspect who had fled the attempted robbery scene. The suspect was shot during the confrontation and transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Lt. Michael Green has been a member of the Sheriff’s Office since 1992. During his employment he has served in Patrol, Community Policing, and K9. He served as Sergeant from 2006 until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2016, and is currently assigned to the Port/Cape Canaveral Precinct.
As is customary in officer involved shootings, Lt. Green has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
