NR 17-35 Investigative Update-Sheriff’s Office Conducting Death Investigation
Yesterday, the brother of one of the victims notified the Sheriff’s Office at East Precinct of two adult individuals who were last seen in the area of Merritt Island on June 16, 2017, and were considered missing and believed deceased.
The victims are identified as 35-year-old Joseph Watt and 35-year-old Michael Johnson Jr. of Merritt Island.
At approximately 9:16 p.m., yesterday evening, the brother of Joseph Watt re-contacted the Sheriff’s Office advising he had located the deceased males at the Port St. John residence. Upon arrival, the deputies entered the residence and located the two victims deceased inside.
The trauma to the victims indicates homicide and the Post Mortems are scheduled for tomorrow. The investigative findings to date indicate the two victims were specifically targeted and the incident was drug related.
This investigation is ongoing as members of the Crime Scene and Homicide Units are still collecting evidence and conducting interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The Sheriff’s Office will provide updates and further details as they become available.
