NR 17-50 Sheriff’s Office Investigating Shooting In Unincorporated Cocoa
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred this morning in the area of South Ridgewood Drive, unincorporated Cocoa.
Deputies responded to the residence at approximately 10:20 a.m. after a call was received stating that a person had been accidentally shot. Deputies arrived to find the victim suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene agents also responded to the scene and are presently conducting the investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate a family member was showing another family member a firearm that had recently been purchased. The firearm discharged, critically wounding the victim. Investigators are continuing to conduct interviews and collect evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
