NR 17-55 Arrest Leads To Recovery Of Three Stolen Vehicles And Firearm
Two Cocoa adults and a juvenile are in custody after the Sheriff’s STAR Unit followed a vehicle on a route that started in Cocoa continued through Titusville and Merritt Island before ending at a residence in unincorporated Cocoa. Arrested were 21-year-olds, Corwyn Mitchell and Dontarious Jordan along with a 17-year-old juvenile male.
Mitchell was charged with Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, resisting without violence and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Jordan was charged with Grand Theft Auto, Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Resting without Violence. The juvenile faces charges of Resisting without Violence and Violation of Probation. The two adults are being held at the Brevard County Jail and the juvenile will be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident started at approximately 10:45 a.m. when a plainclothes agent observed a red Honda at the Budget Inn in Cocoa that was reported stolen out of the city of Melbourne. The three suspects entered the vehicle and upon seeing the agent fled the area heading North on I-95. The vehicle was observed a short time later in the Titusville area at which time the Sheriff’s Office STAR Unit began following the vehicle. The vehicle was followed to an apartment complex in Merritt Island where the suspects parked that vehicle before leaving the area in another vehicle that was determined to be stolen. drove from Merritt Island to unincorporated Cocoa where they fled from the vehicle in the area of Stratford Drive. The Aviation Unit was able to direct responding deputies to the area where all three suspects were taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, Jordan was found to be in possession of a concealed firearm. A third stolen vehicle was recovered during the follow-up investigation.
