Alan Diamond

Alan Diamond serves as Chief Legal Officer for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, a position he has held since December 2024. He brings more than 33 years of legal experience to the role, grounded in a career that spans prosecution, criminal defense, law enforcement advisory work, and bar leadership.

Admitted to The Florida Bar in 1992, Chief Diamond has practiced as both an Assistant State Attorney and a criminal defense attorney. In 2005, he earned Board Certification in Criminal Trial Law, a distinction that recognizes his special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in criminal trial practice, as well as his professionalism and ethics. Fewer than 1% of Florida lawyers hold board certification in this specialty area.

Chief Diamond is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; the U.S. District Courts for Florida and Washington, D.C.; and all Florida State Courts. He served for a decade as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida’s Eighteenth Judicial Circuit, where he was honored as the Outstanding Trial Attorney of the Year and rose to serve as a felony division chief. Following government service, he achieved notable success in private practice and received the Brevard County Bar Association Professionalism Award. He also led the Brevard County Bar Association as its President for the 2012–2013 term.

Chief Diamond has long contributed to law enforcement training. He is an instructor for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on self-defense, firearms use, and the laws governing concealed weapons. He previously served as an instructor with the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association and received its Distinguished Faculty award in 2002. From 1999 to 2001, he was the training supervisor for the lawyers of the State Attorney’s Office in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit.

A trusted advisor to law enforcement, Chief Diamond served as General Counsel to the Fraternal Order of Police for the entire State of Florida from 2012 to 2018. He also served as a Staff Attorney for the Fraternal Order of Police for Central Florida and has represented FOP members for more than 22 years.

Chief Diamond earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill College of Law in 1992. He is also a graduate of the Force Science Institute, with certification in the principles of Force Science for analyzing use-of-force incidents.
