Alan Diamond

Alan Diamond joined the BCSO in December of 2024 as Chief Legal Officer after serving in the legal community for over 32 years – having been admitted to the Florida Bar in 1992, after which he performed in roles as both an Assistant State Attorney and a criminal defense attorney.  Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law in 2005, Chief Diamond brings years of experience and demonstrated excellence to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in various areas of law, and professionalism and ethics in practice.  In Florida, less than 1% of lawyers are board certified in criminal trial law.

Chief Diamond has been admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, Florida and Washington D.C. U.S. District Courts, and Florida State Courts.  Chief Diamond was an Assistant State Attorney for more than a decade in the 18th Judicial Circuit where he received the Outstanding Trial Attorney of the Year award prior to becoming a felony division chief.  In recent years, Chief Diamond achieved remarkable success in private practice. He is a recipient of the Brevard County Bar Association Professionalism Award and served as president of the Brevard County Bar Association for the 2012-2013 term. Chief Diamond has also been an instructor for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office focusing on self-defense, firearms use and the laws governing concealed weapons.

Chief Diamond is a former instructor with the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association and received the 2002 Distinguished Faculty award from the FPAA. He was the training supervisor for the lawyers of the State Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial Circuit from 1999-2001.

Chief Diamond served as the Fraternal Order of Police General Counsel for the entire State of Florida from 2012-2018, and has continued to work as a Staff Attorney for the Fraternal Order of Police for Central Florida and has represented FOP members for more than 22 years.

Chief Diamond graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies. He received his law degree in 1992 from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill College of Law. He is a graduate of the Force Science ® Institute and has completed training on the principles of Force Science and is certified to apply these principles to the analysis of use of force incidents.
