Commander Byron Keck is a twenty-nine-year law enforcement veteran of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and is currently assigned as the Commander of both Port Canaveral and the city of Cape Canaveral Precinct. Commander Keck’s unique assignment includes the direction and leadership of both law enforcement and seaport security aspects. Commander Keck holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. He has served as Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, AG/Marine Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Countywide Watch Commander. His career also includes an assignment as a Lieutenant in Operational Services overseeing many of the agency’s specialty units, including Ag/Marine, K-9, EOD, Traffic, and Volunteers. He also served as the law enforcement liaison to the county Emergency Operations Center. Commander Keck is a member of the area maritime security committee and serves on the Central Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force maritime sub-committee.
Additionally, Commander Keck is a twenty-eight-year veteran of the United States Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy and holds a Master Captain’s license.
