Chief Stephen Fernez is a twenty-three-year law enforcement veteran who currently serves as the Chief of Brevard County Jail Operations which includes providing oversight of the County Jail and assuring the proper care, custody, and control of the inmates. Chief Fernez holds a Doctorate Degree of Education in Leadership from Trevecca University. He has served as a Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Corporal, Agent, Sergeant, Investigative Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major and Commander. His career also includes assignments as Sergeant over the Special Investigations Unit, Agent in the General Crimes Unit, and Major over the Special Operations Unit. He has attended training through FBI-LEEDA, DEA (Basic and Advanced), and has a Certificate in Public Sector Leadership from Cornell University.
