NR 25-06: Deputy Involved Shooting

Earlier today, at approximately 3:27 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Palm Circle, in Palm Shores, in reference to a disturbance.  According to the caller, an individual was out of control and damaging the inside of the residence.  At one point, the caller advised they locked themselves inside the bathroom in an attempt to remain safe.  Upon arrival, the responding deputy met with the caller outside the residence before attempting to contact the male subject.  As the deputy approached the front door of the residence, the subject appeared, holding a knife, and quickly advanced towards the deputy.  The deputy responded by discharging their weapon and ending the threat.

The male was immediately provided medical attention until paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.   The body of the decedent will be transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted.

The identities of the involved parties or law enforcement personnel are not being released at this time.

As is customary in officer involved shootings, the deputy has been placed on paid Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation of this incident is ongoing and being conducted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.  Once complete, the investigative findings will be submitted to the Office of the State Attorney, 18th Judicial Circuit.
