The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested, 22-year-old, Jeremyah Campbell of Texas for the murder of his grandparents that occurred last night on Washington Street in West Melbourne. He was charged after an arrest warrant was issued by the Honorable Judge Kim Musselman, charging him with two counts of 2nd Degree Murder, one count of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Shooting into an Occupied Residence. Campbell was transported to the Brevard County Detention Center where he is being held on a No Bond status.
The victims have been identified as 83-year-old, George White and his wife, 81-year-old, Mary White. A 25-year-old female neighbor was also wounded in the incident, receiving a non-life-threatening injury and is expected to recover.
The investigation began on the evening of July 23, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., when deputies and officers from the West Melbourne Police Department responded to a residence in the area of Washington Street in unincorporated West Melbourne, in reference to the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel located Mr. White and a female at the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to the hospital where Mr. White was later pronounced deceased.
Initial information was provided that Mr. White had come to the neighbor’s residence, advising that his wife had been shot at his residence and he needed help. As he entered the residence, both Mr. White and the female neighbor were shot. The suspect was described as a male relative of Mr. White. Law enforcement began a search for the suspect, as well as made entry into the White residence, where Ms. White was discovered. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. As the search of the area continued, the suspect Jeremyah Campbell was located and detained.
The investigation thus far has determined that Campbell came to the White residence within the past few days for an unknown reason. The shooting incident started at the White residence where Ms. White was shot and killed. As Mr. White went to the neighbors’ residence for help, the suspect continued to fire, striking both White and a female who was at the neighbor’s residence. The suspect then fled the area until he was located, approximately an hour after the incident was reported. At the present time, the reason for the shooting is unclear and still under investigation.
