NR 26-02 Deputy Involved Shooting

On October 10, 2026, two members of our agency received a call for service regarding a wellbeing check. The interaction with the individual ultimately resulted in a Deputy Involved Shooting.

At approximately 7:55 pm our deputies responded to Pine Avenue in Mims at the request of the subject’s son, who reported his 79-year-old father was allegedly suicidal. Upon arrival, deputies determined the subject met the criteria for involuntary examination under the Baker Act. Medical transportation was requested to provide assistance and transport the subject to a medical facility for evaluation. When the transportation arrived, the subject allegedly retrieved a firearm that was concealed beneath his body and pointed it toward the deputies. The deputies responded to the deadly threat by discharging their firearms, neutralizing the threat.

The subject was transported to a local medical facility where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The identities of the subject and the law enforcement personnel involved are not being released at this time.

As is customary in officer involved shootings, the deputies have been placed on paid Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Deputy Involved Shooting is being investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and will be forwarded to the Brevard/Seminole State Attorney’s Office for an independent review and determination concerning the Use of Force.

Additional updates and details will be provided as they become available.
