C.H.A.N.C.E. (Citizen Has a Noticeable Crisis Episode)

C.H.A.N.C.E. (Citizen Has a Noticeable Crisis Episode) is an initiative of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Its purpose is to provide information to our deputies to assist when interacting with or searching for citizens, both adult and juvenile, in the community with certain needs. This program focuses on those with mental or neurological disabilities such as Autism, Bipolar disorder, and other conditions, who may go missing or could have a hard time verbalizing things during an interaction with a law enforcement officer.

Parents or guardians would complete the application and return the information, along with a photograph of the individual, to the Sheriff’s Office to be maintained in our database. The information provided by the parent or guardian would be able to let us know if the individual is fond of a specific place, if they have a calming technique that would benefit us during an interaction, and other things of this nature, with the goal of locating the missing person quicker in those situations or just knowing how to best communicate and interact with them during any encounter.

This program is completely voluntary, and benefits the individual, their loved ones and of course our community. If you are interested in participating in our CHANCE Program, please complete the application and turn it in at any of our precincts, or it can be mailed to our Community Services Unit at 700 S. Park Ave., Titusvills, FL 32780. If you have any questions, please contact them at 321-264-7755.
