The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is identifying the male who was shot and killed in Port St John, on Sunday, December 11, 2022.  The male is identified as 36-year-old, Brandon Turner of Cocoa.

The investigation began when deputies responded to the McDonald’s located at 6857 North Highway 1, Port St John, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Sunday, in reference to a report that a person had been shot.  Upon arrival, deputies located a white male in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.  The male was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation has found that the decedent walked up to a vehicle in the parking lot and physically attacked the male driver who was eating his food.   The decedent continued striking the driver during the unprovoked attack.  The driver armed himself with a firearm from within the vehicle and fired one shot, which struck the male.  Based on evidence collected thus far, it appears the decedent attacked the driver, believing him to be someone else.

The investigation is continuing and upon conclusion, the case will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
